I don't know about you but I absolutely love it when I discover/uncover/find a technique that I have never used on a card before. I can only hope that you are as excited by this one as I am.
Who would ever think of using a stencil/mask to emboss with, but you can and it is easy with a couple simple tools.
What will need is an embossing machine, silicone caftsheet, a stencil, some tape to hold your stencil in place and of course some card stock.
You plates for your machine should sandwich like this
# 1 Base Plate
# 3 Cut Plate
Silicone Craft Sheet
Card Stock & Stencil (taped together)
# 4 Specialty Plate
